My babies are pacifier junkies. We are talking serious addicts. Beat up pacifiers never bugged me when Baby Boy was sucking away on them, but the Little Princess…..well, she needs to dazzle! Her beat up binkies were driving me nutty!! So I decided: they need a MAKEOVER!
At first I considered gluing loads of rhinestones onto them, but I feared that she would pick them off too easily or that they would fall off, which would be a choking hazard. And then it occurred to me: GLITTER! Glitter and Mod Podge! So easy, and I love how it turned out! Read on to see just how easy this tutorial ended up being.
Gather up those ugly binkies. (These are MAM brand pacifiers. My kids love them and they stay in their mouths really well, so they are all that I buy, even though they are a bit more expensive than some other brands.)
Gently sand the picture/print off of the pacifier with a fine sand paper. Now it’s time to get glittery!
Grab some Mod Podge, a brush, and extra-fine glitter. Mix the two together until you like the consistency. Your mixture will look milky and a bit *off*, but don’t worry, because the Mod Podge dries clear, so the glitter will really shine through in the end.
Time to paint! Paint evenly and generously.
Now let those bad boys dry!
***IMPORTANT: Let them dry for about a week so they CURE completely! I was all jazzed about mine, so I gave them to my little lady that night. She didn’t have too difficult of a time chipping pieces of the glittered Mod Podge off. Luckily I noticed the flakes of Mod Podge right away and took them away from her. However, by two days later the Mod Podge and glitter was as hard as a ROCK and NOT chippable. I literally tried to chip it off with a metal knife and could not succeed. Of course, if you are still uncomfortable with this tutorial you needn’t do it for your own child, but my little gal has had zero success chipping off the glitter or Mod Podge since I let them dry for a couple of days, so she has been perfectly safe.
I love all the glittery, bright colors! Fun!
