Hello, and welcome to day two of Minnie Mouse Week on Craft Quickies! If you didn’t get a chance to enter the fabulous Minnie Mouse Giveaway yesterday then be sure to do so today! $200 worth of fabulous Minnie Mouse inspired items from small businesses. Love it! But first take a minute to check out today’s installment in Minnie Mouse Week: a Minnie Mouse Taggies Inspired Toy.
Are you familiar with Taggies? They are a super cute line of blankets and lovies with lots of ribbons for babies to grab and play with and hold. I started thinking about getting Jade a Taggies lovie of her own, but I wanted a Minnie Mouse themed one. I thought about doing a circle lovie with red and black ribbons, but took it a step farther by making the lovie itself in the shape of mouse ears. Funnest.
Start by gathering your supplies. You will need:
* a variety of Minnie-feeling ribbons (Super cute ones in the Etsy shop of one of our giveaway donors’ shops, Ribbon Revelry!)
* black minky fabric
* cereal bag liner
* free mouse ear PDF pattern
Start by using the pattern to cut out two mouse ear forms using the black minky fabric. Lay one of the mouse ear forms out and cut multiple lengths of ribbon, approximately 6 inches in length. Fold the ribbon lengths in half and pin them to the edge of the mouse ear form, as shown below. The looped part should be in the center of the mouse ear form. Repeat until your lovie is very fun and full of ribbon loops.
Once all of the ribbons are pinned onto the mouse ear form you may want to pin the loose ends together in the middle as shown below so that they don’t wiggle free and get caught up in the sewing machine.
Now get ready to sew by using and old cereal bag liner to cut out another mouse ear form. Pin it to the WRONG side (the side you want on the INSIDE of the lovie) of the second minky mouse ear form.
Now layer the two pieces as shown below.
Now pin the two layers together very well so they don’t slip and slide around during the sewing process.
Now sew them together. Be sure to backstitch when you begin and end, and LEAVE AN OPENING SO THAT YOU CAN TURN THE WHOLE THING INSIDE OUT THROUGH THE HOLE.
Once you are finished sewing most of the way around the mouse ear pull out the pins and turn the whole thing inside out. Pin the opening shut and then top stitch the opening shut with the sewing machine.
Ta-da! Your final product!
Cute, right? I love it. I apologize if these instructions aren’t perfectly clear. I found this hard to describe.
