Hello friends! It has been ages since I posted a new blog post for you, but I knew that I wanted to share this Harry Potter bedroom with you before it vanished into the night. I fell in love with Harry Potter and the Wizarding World when I was in college. I was annoyed by all of the hype and refusing to read them, but then my mom stuffed Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone in my hand and INSISTED I read it one day on my holiday break. I reluctantly opened it up, but in no time I was hooked. I finished that first book in a single day, and I devoured each subsequent book as they were released.
When I taught elementary school before my children were born, I used to read Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone with my class and then throw a MASSIVE, elaborate Harry Potter themed party for my class on the last week of school. We’re talking decorations, homemade chocolate frogs, handmade wands (using chopsticks, a glue gun, and spray paint) for each kids, games, and more. It was a labor of love, and I hope it’s something they still think back to fondly.
When we moved from my dad’s home in Colorado to our new home in Utah for my husband’s job about 5 1/2 years ago, I asked my kids what theme they wanted for their rooms in the new house. My son requested a Harry Potter bedroom. I had just thrown his epic Harry Potter Birthday Party the prior spring, so I had quite a few decorations to use to get me started. Over the years I have gathered items from several places to create this Harry Potter bedroom. Most of the items come from LitJoy, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood, the Harry Potter Store in New York City, Pottery Barn Teen, and some handmade items. And do you see that QUILT?!?! My mother-in-law made it for his room! We asked her for a twin sized quilt and she made a king sized one because she couldn’t decide which characters were the cutest. Haha. She’s the best!
Well, my boy is turning 16 this week, and he has asked to move on from the Harry Potter room and get a hockey themed teenager room with a bigger bed for his giant 6 foot tall body. It broke my heart a little bit to pack up the Harry Potter items, but most of them are going to his Harry Potter loving little cousins, which does make me happy.
These beautiful photos were taken by my dear, dear friend Jamie Younker of Jamie Younker Photography. She’s the best human and the best photographer in northern Utah. Be sure to get on her schedule for your family photos if you live anywhere near Cache Valley, Utah!
Without further ado, here is a look at my boy’s Harry Potter Bedroom.
