I’ll be honest: although pink and red are colors that I adore and hearts are something that I love, I don’t usually bother to decorate for Valentine’s Day. I always grin and get a thrill when I see a heart wreath or any other Valentine’s decorations in Target (seriously—they have the cutest holiday decor!), but I haven’t ever done anything about it.
However, this is my first Valentine’s Day as a blogger. And seeing the fabulous Valentine themed projects all over the web has me seriously craving some cutesy heart joy to spread around my house. So brace yourselves, because if I can actually get my act together—and that is a BIG “if”—then you are going to be flooded with easy Valentine’s Day decor ideas, along with a few roundups of my favorite Valentine’s Day crafts that I have been spotting on other blogs.
Let’s start with this one: the feathered heart wreath. It was quick, it was easy, and it looks fab……but BOY OH BOY was it a mess! You will see why. If you want to make it let me just say this: have your vacuum handy! Now get read to get fancy!
1. Gather your supplies. You will need a styrofoam heart wreath form, two white feather boas, some white ribbon (I used sparkly white elastic, actually), some foam hear stickers, and a hot glue gun.
2. Slather the point of your heart wreath with hot glue and gently press the end of your boa onto the wreath form as shown.
3. Now wrap your boa around the wreath form, dabbing hot glue as you go to help it stay in place.
4. Once you have finished wrapping your boas take a look at your wreath. It is magnficently fluffy, is it not? But…….you can’t tell it’s a heart. Yeah. Time to pull out the scissors.
5. Snip away (generously in the middle and the back) until you have a heart form that you are happy with. Now get out the vacuum and suck up all of the delightful little wispy feathers before they take over your entire home!
**An alternative that you may want to consider is buying the furry boas instead of the feathered ones. Still fluffy, but no mess. It just depends on what “look” you prefer.
5. Time to accessorize! Take your ribbon (or, in my case, leftover glitter elastic from the A Romantic Winter Headband) and hot glue it onto your wreath. Clear away the feathers a bit in the spots where you will be gluing, which should be spots near the back of the wreath. I glued mine on a slight diagonal angle.
6. Time to add your hearts! I got these packages of foam heart stickers at JoAnn’s Fabric and Craft Supply Stores. I just experimented with the stickers until I found a look that I liked and gently hot glued them onto the wreath.
Beautiful Sarah! Love the idea of using boas.
Messy, but I love feathers! 🙂
So Pretty!! I love the feathers too! You are so stinking creative.
Thanks, sweet friend!
Gorgeous! I’m such a huge fan of wreaths. Pinning!
EEK! Thank you, Jill! That means a lot to me coming from you! Everything you do is so beyond fab!
