If you need a quick but fun decoration for your house that can be used year after year then you should check out this fun Mod Podge pumpkin face wooden block project! I used my Pumpkin Carving Cricut Cartridge with my Cricut Expression, but you could use the cutting device of your choice, cut out your own shape with scissors, print clip art from the computer, use stickers or scrapbooking embellishments, or you could even paint the faces on yourself or draw them on with a permanent marker! Let’s get started!
1. Gather up your supplies. You will need wooden blocks of your choice, orange paint, Mod Podge, a foam paintbrush, and whatever tools you intend to use to create your pumpkin faces. I used my Cricut Expression with the Pumpkin Carving Cricut Cartridge and sparkly black paper that I found at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores. This Cricut cartridge was a seasonal one and can be tough to find in stores, but it is on sale online at the Cricut website. It is worth investing in for future use. It’s one of my all time favorites! I also used it for a project that will be revealed sometime in the next day or two.
2. Paint your wooden blocks orange (or the color of your choice). Let dry.
3. While your paint dries prep your pumpkin faces. My three year old son helped me choose the faces, and he was positively fascinated watching the Cricut do its work. If you do not have a Cricut or other die cutting machine see my other ideas/options in the opening paragraph of this post.
4. Once you have your blocks painted and your faces prepared, you will simply paint a nice layer of Mod Podge onto the block and secure your pumpkin face in place using the Mod Podge as a glue. Let dry.
5. Now coat the pumpkin face liberally (but evenly!) with Mod Podge. You should also put a thin coat of Mod Podge on the rest of your block so that the entire block will have a nice, finished feel and sheen. Let dry.
You are all done! Wasn’t that easy? Now you have a cute and unique decoration that you can use year after year. And, as you can see below, this can be turned into a fun activity for kiddos as well! My son was sad that we didn’t have any blocks for him to paint, so he went into our backyard and picked out two rocks to use instead. I was happy to cut two extra faces for him. It is so fun for us to do projects together, and it makes my crafty addiction into something that enriches our time together rather than something that I do instead of paying attention to him, which it easily could be.
