Sew a set of reusable Easter treat pouches, perfect for an Easter basket or egg hunt! The free sewing pattern includes three shapes – an Easter egg, a carrot, and a sweet little chick. All three are sized just right for Easter candy or small gifts!
I always like to add some handmade element to a holiday. It doesn’t have to be anything huge – in fact, I’d rather it not be because I’m usually doing everything very last minute. Just a small something that feel intentional.
These reusable Easter treat pouches are quick to sew and are a cute way to gift a little Easter treat. You can fill them with candy or other small gifts and tuck them into Easter baskets, or hide them around your house for a little Easter egg hunt.
That fabric Easter basket they’re all sitting in is also a free sewing pattern. You can find it here.
When I started this project I planned to just make some fillable fabric Easter eggs. Look how pretty they are sewn up out of bright spring prints!
But as I was looking at the egg shape it occurred to me that the same shape could be used to make other Easter pouches. Add some eyes, a little beak, and a little tuft at the top and you’ve got an adorable Easter chick.
Or turn it upside down and add some leaves, and there’s a carrot!
All three reusable treat pouch designs – Easter egg, carrot, and chick – are made with the same basic egg shape with just some small additions to make the carrot and the chick.
On the back, a simple envelope closure gives easy access to the treats inside.
The Easter egg is the simplest of the three designs and only takes about 10 minutes start to finish. The chick and the carrot take a little longer because of the extra details but all are quick and easy to make.
Finished dimensions are approximately 4” tall x 3” wide.

RST = Right Sides Together
Sew the Easter Egg Pouch
Place the Back Top pieces RST. Sew across straight edge with ¼” seam allowance.
Turn right side out, then give it a good press.
Place the Back Bottom pieces RST. Sew across straight edge with ¼” seam allowance.
Turn right side out and press.
Now that you’ve got your Back Top and Back Bottom pieces, we can assemble the pouch.
First, place the two Front pieces WST.
Next, place the two Back Top pieces on top, matching notches.
The last layer is the Back Bottom. Place the Back Bottom piece on top, matching notches.
Pin all these layers together and then sew around all sides with a ¼” seam allowance.
Use a pair of pinking shears to trim the seam allowance. This will keep the raw edges from fraying while also being a super fast way to clip all those curves.
Turn the egg shape right side out. Your treat pouch is finished!
Sew the Carrot Pouch
Place 2 Leaves pieces RST. Sew around sides and curved top. Leave open at the bottom.
Trim seam allowance with pinking shears. Turn right side out.
Repeat with remaining Leaves pieces to create a set of 3 Leaves.
Using a needle and thread, take a couple of large stitches across the bottom of one of the Leaves, with a 1/8” seam allowance. Pull the stitches to gather.
Now repeat with the remaining two Leaves pieces using the same thread.
Place Leaves along Top edge of one of the Front pieces, RST and centered with raw edges aligned. Baste in place with 1/8” seam allowance. (The Carrot Pouch uses the egg shape upside down, so the top of the Carrot will actually be the bottom of the egg shape.)
Use the sewing instructions for the Easter Egg Pouch at the beginning of this tutorial to assemble your Carrot Pouch. Keep in mind that the Carrot Pouch uses the egg shape upside down.
Sew the Chick Pouch
Cut two ¼” circles from HTV.
A cutting machine is helpful for this, but not necessary. My cutting machine is currently broken, so I just used a ¼” hole punch to cut the vinyl. This meant that there was no way to remove the plastic liner from the vinyl after applying it down to the fabric, but it wasn’t bothering anything so I just left it there.
Place the circles where indicated on the Placement Guide in your pattern. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply the HTV.
Place the Beak where indicated on the Placement Guide. (Placement Guide only shows the bottom half of the Beak, as it will be folded in half on the finished pouch.)
Sew a line across the middle of the Beak.
Fold the Beak in half over that seam, then sew another seam on top of both layers of the Beak close to the edge.
Fold the Tuft piece in half the short way. Cut a bunch of slits starting at the folded edge, stopping about ¼” away from the unfolded edges. Make the slits fairly close together, a little more than 1/8” apart.
Fold this piece in half lengthwise, then use a needle and thread to secure.
Place the Tuft along the top edge of the Front piece, RST and centered with raw edges aligned. Baste in place with 1/8” seam allowance.
Use the sewing instructions for the Easter Egg Pouch at the beginning of this tutorial to assemble your Chick Pouch.
