Win a $200 gift card to either JoAnn Fabrics or Home Depot!!
WHEW!  It has been a CRAZY busy week!  I have been knocking myself dead this week with work stuff.  Blog posts and behind-the-scenes work GALORE.  Lots of fun stuff (and changes!) coming up this month, but I think that this next week I am going to just relax a bit.  The results of the Craft-Off will go live on Tuesday morning, and I will definitely be posting for S’mores Saturday, but other than that I am going to just relax.  Maybe one other post.  MAYBE!  I know it’s a summer holiday week anyway, so you all will have much better things to do with your time than read my blog.  Just letting you know.  I am not disappearing on you.  Just taking a break.  But keep checking in, because I think you will love everything I have coming up as much as I do!  🙂

Today I am so excited to share a super fun giveaway with you! I have teamed up with Coupons.com and 14 other creative DIY and craft bloggers to bring you a $200 e-card giveaway good to either Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores or Home Depot. You choose which one you want!  SCORE, right?!  Let me introduce you to your lovely hostesses:

Coupons.com offers a wide selection of digital coupons for both companies and brands. They are the largest provider of digital coupons on the web! Including coupons for Home Depot as well as JoAnn coupon codes.  Let’s be honest: those JoAnn’s coupons are like LIQUID GOLD!!!
As part of the giveaway, we were each given a $50 e-card to either Jo-Ann or Home Depot and asked to use it to create a 4th of July project.  I went to JoAnn Fabrics to wander the aisles and get inspired for a festive wreath, but then I spotted the cake decorating aisle and something in me screamed out for a little food crafting instead.  I love how my festive patriotic cupcakes turned out, AND I am pumped to share with you that all summer-themed Wilton cake decorating and food supplies are on sale!  I grabbed a bunch of fun things for the 4th of July picnic I’m attending, as well as other summery items.  (Oh, and psssstttt—-remember that glitter tape I’m freaking OBSESSED with?!?!?  I FOUND IT ON CLEARANCE FOR 97 cents while I was there!!!!!  I will never admit how much I bought.  It’s just humiliating.  And when I got home I regretted not having bought ALL of it.  Seriously.  I have serious, serious glitter problems…)
Let me show you my patriotic cupcakes!  They are so cute and festive, but I used box cake and premade frosting, so it’s all a deceptive little act.  I love making cute stuff on the fly!
Love these darling but simple patriotic cupcakes!  Here are the fun food-crafting items that I came home with from JoAnn’s.  All on sale.  SCORE!
Patriotic Cupcakes-1 Let’s start with the red stars on top of the cupcakes.  They are candy!  I used these colored Wilton Candy Melts (which are surprisingly tasty, by the way) and a star candy mold to create them.  You simply melt the Candy Melts in the microwave in a disposable cake decorating bag and then squeeze the melted candy into the mold.  Gently tap the mold on the counter and the candy will flatten out.  Place in the refrigerator to cool and then pop them right now.  They were seriously SO easy, but they look super impressive, don’t you think?
How to make candy stars in minutes! How to make candy stars in minutes! How to make candy stars in minutes! Now onto the cupcakes.  I simply grabbed a container of vanilla frosting and whipped it up along with some blue food coloring using my hand mixer.  Then I used a basic cake decorating tip kit that I also found at JoAnn’s and swirled the frosting onto the cupcakes!  Easy peasy!  Top with cool sprinkles and a candy star and you are good to go!
Patriotic Cupcakes-7 Patriotic Cupcakes-8 One of my favorite things about these cupcakes, however, is the BOX that they are in!  I found this in the Fourth of July section at JoAnn’s, and I love it.  From closed portable box to a display case.  So handy!!  I am totally using it for our Fourth of July picnic!
Patriotic Cupcakes-5 Patriotic Cupcakes-6 I hope you like my easy decorating ideas, and I hope that you take the opportunity to check out some of the amazing work by the other bloggers!

I’d use the 40% off one item to make the flag planter in the first link. I think it’s cute and would make a great hostess gift.

I’d use the 50% off on air filters from Home Depot and use them to let the children paint them as flags.

Oh cute cupcakes! I plan to use the coupon code save SAVE15 at Home Depot to save 15% off a waffle stick maker to make colored red and blue waffle sticks for the kids. Then I’m going to set them on the plate and use things to make them look like firecrackers. At Joanna I’m going to use the 40% off one item to buy a patriotic print fabric to make a huge curtain for the kids to separate the living room from their playroom. We plan to decorate their playroom up too!

How did you get the melts to look so good? I used them before, and my end product was not super good looking!

Hi Anita! I just followed the directions…..I melted them well in a decorating bag and then I squeezed it out while still super hot into the molds, tapped the mold on the counter to help it settle down and straighten out, and then refrigerated them. I’m not sure I did anything particularly special!
