This Minnie Mouse Birthday Party is the perfect birthday celebration for your little mouse! Includes simple cake, decor, and outfit ideas!
Since my girl is so Minnie Mouse obsessed, she obviously needed a Minnie Mouse Birthday Party! This party happened back in the spring, but editing and sorting through all of the pictures was daunting to me, so it didn’t happen until just now. You ready for some serious picture overload? Here goes nothing…
This “party” wasn’t truly a party. It was dinner with one other family and a fancy staged table and photo backdrop to make Mama (aka me) happy. A one year old doesn’t need a birthday party or care about a birthday party, but I had grand dreams of perfect pictures that would fill my heart with joy. I didn’t do a full-out cake smash with my oldest, and I always regretted not having those pictures. I was determined to put in the extra effort and make a fab setup that would result in dozens of darling shots of my little lady grinning from ear to ear, all covered with frosting. As you can see, all of my wildest dreams came true…….
Yeah. There was a lot of that. Oh, and a lot of this….
By the end of the attempted photo shoot THIS was how I was feeling….
Probably one of the worst pictures of me EVER, but I had to include it because the crazy eye is just too accurate. I was ready to pick up that Minnie Mouse cake and hurl it across the house in a screaming fit. But I restrained myself. Somehow. We took a bit of a break and then tried it again with some more gentle coaxing from Mama and everyone in the “audience” shooed away to decrease the pressure. A TINY bit of success. Not really what I was dreaming about, but, hey, beggars can’t be choosers, right?!
At that point we gave up completely, put her in a clean outfit, and let her roam around with her new doll stroller and her baby bestie. They are the CUTEST together, aren’t they??
We had the party the same day as my dad’s birthday. The “Bug,” as he calls her, loves her Bapa.
So, the actual party photo execution was an extremely frustrating letdown, but at least the setup looked good, right?
Sheesh. Let’s break down the details.
Minnie Mouse Birthday Party Pretty Table
Pretty straightforward. White tablecloth, confetti that was really black and red card stock hole-punched over and over, balloons, a framed pic of my girl with Minnie Mouse, and the cake and cupcakes. More on those in a moment.
Minnie Mouse Birthday Party Cake/Cupcake Toppers
The ah-maaaa-zing cake topper and cupcake toppers were made for me by an amazingly talented friend. She is the bomb. And thank GOODNESS for her, because, as you may see, the cake is a bit….errrr….lumpy. Here is what it looked like after I frosted it.
Frightening, is it not?? My sister walked by and said, “You have many talents….cake decorating does not seem to be one of them.” Only a sister, am I right?! Heehee. She’s not wrong, though! I tried to smooth it out some and used a red sugar sheet that I got at a craft supply store to cut out polka dots to place on the cake. They hid my horrific frosting job well enough for the cake topper to still have a place to shine. Isn’t it amazing?? It was the only part of the cake that made Jade smile. Go figure. The cupcake toppers are the cutest too, huh?! It’s nice to have incredibly generous and talented friends!
Minnie Mouse Birthday Party Photo Shoot Setup
Now let’s talk about the photo setup, which was on our back deck. I hung a $1 red plastic tablecloth from Walmart over the window with pushpins. It shone through the window, creating the backdrop for the table, which worked out well. I also draped a mouse ear garland on it, which we will discuss in a minute.
Would you like to know how I got all of those perfect mouse ear forms for my garland? By using my Cricut, of course! I used the Mickey & Friends Cricut Cartridge. I simply loaded up my cutting mat with them in Cricut Craft Room, printed them out, and then used a hot glue gun to glue them to some sparkly white yarn. It was a tad tedious to glue them on, but it all came together quite quickly and I saved it for future use.
The last thing that I have to show you is how I made her Mouse Ear Birthday Crown. I love it.
Do you remember this Birthday Princess Crown tutorial that I shared several months back?
I used that same pattern to put it together, although I obviously added gluing two black felt circles to the crown as well to give the illusion of mouse ears. Now I will be honest with you about my ghetto ways. I didn’t have enough time to sew the crown this time, so I literally hot glued the entire crown together instead. Hey, it ain’t classy, but it works! And it is still holding up, too! Who knew?!
So, what do you think? Do you love it? It’s ok if you don’t, of course, but please don’t tell me. This party has already caused enough heartache and frustration. 😉 If you do love it then be sure to check out the other Minnie Mouse party that I threw recently, my Minnie Mouse Bowtique Party! It’s perfect for slightly older kids or for lovers of pink Minnie, as opposed to red Minnie.

I love it! Such adorable pictures too. And why is it that the pictures I always fall in love with most are those where the poor child is having a tearful breakdown? WHY are those just the cutest? I’m so bad. LOL
My 1 yr old Granddaughter would have been in heaven with all that Minnie Mouse stuff surrounding her. She is just infatuated with all things Mickey and Minnie and stops dead in her tracks if she hears the song from the cartoon come on TV. Then she starts dancing.
I’m sorry, but I have to agree with your sister on the cake. LOL But, thankfully it turned out super cute. Great job
Sarah says
Thanks, Vicki! That picture of her sobbing next to her cake has been quite the hit on FB as well. 😉

Oh My Goodness! I adore it! I even love the frosting on your cake! I think it makes it more cartoon like! Great job!
Sarah says
Hahaha. That made me giggle. Thanks, Tammi.

I absolutely loved the photos! I think it’s wonderful that you post perfect photos but instead you shared what went on that day. Such a special photo of your dad with his granddaughter. I cherish the photos of my parents with my kids. Wish I knew about your theme earlier so I could have sent you matching polka dot red and black paper straws from my Etsy stre that would have gone perfect. Such a cute party. You did a wonderful job and the cake was adorable! Thanks so much for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend. Karen bellabaragins.etsy.com

oops typo… should say… I think it’s wonderful that you didn’t just post perfect photos…
Sarah says
I knew what you meant. 🙂 I always like it when blogs do that as well, which is why I force myself to share crazy-eyed, unflattering pictures. Hahaha.
Sarah says
Oh man, those straws would have been PERFECT! What is your shop called?

So adorable!!! Love the Minnie garland! I never got to do a cake smash with either of my kiddos but I’m sure it would have turned out very similar. At least it was memorable!! 😉

Very cute! You did a great job. This is the first year we are doing a themed party for my daughter (3) and it is horses. The girl is obsessed. If you have any good tutorials for that let me know. 😉
Sarah says
Sorry, I haven’t done any horses. I bet you can find some, though! 🙂
