Hi! I am Jennifer Priest from Smart Fun DIY and I’m super excited to be here at Bombshell Bling for Spooky Saturdays sharing this handmade felt letter board in candy corn colors as a guest post with you today.

Last year I saw a bunch of felt letter boards on Instagram and when I went to buy one I saw that they were crazy pricey. Plus they were in boring colors. So I started experimenting with different ways to make my own handmade felt letter board. This method that I’m sharing in this post is the best method by far! Plus you can make it for pennies compared to what you’ll pay for a new felt letter board that comes in just one color. I hope that you enjoy this guest post and come check out my other DIY ideas at smartfundiy.com.

Halloween is right around the corner …it’s the best time of year for DIY!! I bet you’ve seen all of those cute letter boards on Instagram. They are crazy pricey, right?! I decided to throw a little DIY magic into creating a custom Felt Letter Board BUT with candy corn colors … Candy corn is gross (who’s with me on this?!) but the colors are so cute and oh-so-Halloweeny. This felt DIY felt letter board is the picture-perfect addition for your Halloween décor!

How to make a handmade Felt Letter Board in Candy Corn Colors!

When you DIY a felt letter board, you can make it any colors you choose! Last year I got a wild hair and made one in RAINBOW colors. Yes!! Traditional yellow, orange, and white candy corn colors are going to be perfect for creating a custom felt letter board that screams HALLOWEEN. When you DIY it, you’re in charge! Whether you put this at your desk or set it up at your party table for your annual Halloween party, this felt letter board speaks volumes. It’s festive, you can customize with hilarious sayings and one-of a kind!

Here’s a list of everything you will need to create the “corniest” handmade felt letter board ever!

Supplies:

  • 3/16″ square dowels
  • frame or canvas (back)
  • black paint
  • tacky glue or wood glue
  • acrylic felt
  • felt letter board letters, 1″ size

Tools:

  • handsaw
  • emery boards or sanding file
  • paint brush
  • measuring tape
  • pencil
  • gift card or credit card

Watch this this video tutorial on how to create this DIY Felt Letter Board!

The beauty of making your own felt letter board is that you can make it in any size you want, to fit any space. I created mine to sit on my desk, right next to my printer and by my pencil cups. When shopping for the frame or canvas (I used the back of a wood canvas for this one) keep in mind the spot where you’re going to place the letter board. I find the best frames and canvases at Hobby Lobby – they have them in all shapes and sizes! For a larger frame, you’ll need more dowels and for a smaller frame, you’ll need fewer dowels.

For this particular frame, I decided to go with the back of a wood canvas. If you’re not afraid to go digging a little, search through the clearance section of the craft store or go to the art canvases aisle and look at the back of each canvas or art piece to see if it would form a nice frame for your DIY felt letter board. Choose a “frame” that is about 3/4″ to 1″ deep so you’ll have space to add the dowels and the felt.

Next, choose the felt colors you’d like to use. Like I mentioned before, I chose candy corn colors of orange, white, and yellow but you can choose ANY colors you like. If you are feeling kind of witchy, I bet green, purple, and black would make an amazing color scheme for felt board! Follow the video tutorial above to make the letter board come to life!

Gosh, I just love how these colors look on this handmade felt board! It really puts me in the Halloween spirit… what do you think?

Keep it corny this Halloween by creating your own custom felt letter board in your favorite Halloween colors. You can use these felt letter boards to display quotes and corny sayings throughout the season, on your desk at work, or even as décor for Halloween party. Which colors will you choose?
