Celebrate autumn with a monogram pumpkin fall door hanger! This easy DIY project adds a warm, inviting touch to your front door or entryway. Use the free sewing pattern to create one for your home—or make a few as thoughtful seasonal gifts!

You know it’s fall when pumpkins start popping up everywhere. With their rich colors and classic charm, they bring instant autumn vibes to any space.

So when I thought about a fall door hanger, of course I had to have a pumpkin.  And a monogram to personalize it!

I’ve got a free sewing pattern for you  below.

This small banner door hanger packs a lot of punch, with a simple pumpkin design and a bold monogram right in the center.

Hang it on your front door or in your entry way for a cozy welcome to your home!

I chose a palette of solid fabrics in rich autumn shades—pumpkin orange, earthy greens, warm browns, and a deep brown-black—to make the design stand out from the soft beige background.

The free pattern includes all 26 letters for monograms.

Finished dimensions (without hanger) are approximately 15” wide x 16” tall.

If you’re looking for a more Halloween-themed project, check out this festive banner featuring a pumpkin and a sassy black cat!

Supplies

Background / Lining – ½ yard quilting cotton

Interfacing – ½ yard fusible fleece

Pumpkin – fat quarter orange quilting cotton

Monogram – fat quarter (or large scrap) black quilting cotton

Stem – scrap of brown quilting cotton

Leaves – scrap of green quilting cotton

½ yard fusible webbing

½” diameter wood towel, 18” long

Thin braided cord or heavy yarn – 28” cord

Free pattern – Monogram Pumpkin Fall Door Banner

The PDF pattern is 24 pages long.  The door hanger and pumpkin applique patterns are on pages 2-15.  The monogram patterns go from pages 12-24.  You can save yourself a little paper by opening the PDF before printing to see which page(s) your monogram letter is on.

RST = Right Sides Together

Prep

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to fuse the fusible webbing to the back of one of the Door Hanger Background / Lining pieces.  This piece will be the Door Hanger Background.  (The one without the fusible webbing will be the Lining.)

Trace the Pumpkin, Stem, Leaves shapes on to the back of your fusible webbing. The shapes are already reversed for you.

Find the letter for your monogram and trace that to the back of the fusible webbing.  The letters are already reversed for you.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to fuse the traced shapes and monogram to the bainck of the fabrics, then cut out.

Drill holes or cut notches near both ends of the dowel.

Sew the Pumpkin Design

Place the Pumpkin piece on the right side of the Background, centered horizontally and with the bottom of the Pumpkin approximately 3 ½” from the bottom of the Background.  The sides of the Pumpkin will be approximately 2 1/8” from the sides of the Background.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to fuse the Pumpkin down to the Background.

Top stitch around the edges of the Pumpkin to secure.

Place the Stem on the Pumpkin, centered horizontally and approximately ½”  – ¾” from the top of the Pumpkin.  Fuse in place, then top stitch to secure.

Arrange the Leaves around the base of the Stem,  Fuse in place, then top stitch to secure.

Now place the monogram letter on the Pumpkin, centered horizontally and vertically.  Fuse in place, then top stitch to secure.

Assemble the Door Hanger

Place the Background and Lining pieces RST.  Sew around all sides with ½” seam allowance, leaving 4” open at the top.

Clip corners and curves.

Turn the Door Hanger right side through that hole in the top.

Press the raw edges at the turning hole to the inside so to be even with the sewn edges.

Top stitch around all sides with 1/8” seam allowance. This will close the turning hole.

Fold the top edge 2” over to the back. Stitch across the bottom of the fabric you folded over to create a casing.

Thread the dowel through the casing.  Thread the cord through the holes then knot, to create the hanger.

Your Monogram Pumpkin Fall Door Hanger is finished!

This is such a sweet and creative fall project! I love how personal the monogram makes it, and the step-by-step instructions are super easy to follow—even for someone like me who’s still learning to sew. Thanks for sharing such a fun and festive idea!
