I am so excited about today’s recipe! I went to college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and there was the most AH-MAZE-ING hot dog stand right next to campus called JDawgs. In fact, so many people agreed with my sentiment that it is amazing that it is no longer a stand, it is now a restaurant! I have always been a hot dog fan, but since I tried JDawgs I am seriously ruined for any other hotdogs. J Dawg Sauce is the best thing EVER! EVER EVER EVER!! We love it, and my husband has been trying to perfect a copycat recipe for it, so when I told him that I had the opportunity to work with Mezzetta to share a recipe using their awesome peppers he immediately declared it a JDawgs night!
Our family loves lazy nights and grilling, and my husband is a major condiment junkie, and he really is genuinely obsessed with Mezzetta peppers. He is a total food snob, and he decided several years back that Mezzetta peppers were better condiments than other brands. Believe it or not, that’s the truth!
Ever since my husband’s first trip to JDawgs he has been particularly obsessed with their version of a “loaded” hot dog. If you want to make a JDawg right you will need a whole mess of toppings. Here are the perfect toppings for the ultimate copycat JDawgs hotdog:
* toasted bun
* hearty beef hotdog
* Mezzetta banana rings
* Mezzetta jalapenos
* pickle spear
* chopped onion
* J Dawg Sauce (see recipe below)
Just load em all up and chow down. YUM!!!!!
Mezzetta is running a great giveaway series this summer. Before I sign off, I can’t forget to give you that infamous J Dawg Sauce recipe! I can’t pretend it’s as perfect as the real thing, but it’s as close as I’ve tasted! And, coming from a total junkie, that’s pretty darn GOOOOD.
- ¾ cup ketchup
- ¾ cup brown sugar, or to taste
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 Tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- pinch of cayenne OR a few dashes of Tabasco
- Mix together all of the ingredients well and serve! YUM!
Happy grilling, from my family to yours!
