Halloween Firecracker Bows Tutorial

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  About 3 years and one month ago I shared my very first tutorial here on Bombshell Bling (then called Craft Quickies).  It was my mama’s Halloween Firecracker Hairbows, modeled by a crazy cute red head.  This year I decided that for the final Spooky Saturday I was going to bring back those fab Halloween Firecracker Bows, along with the adorable redhead.

Here’s my precious little redheaded pal then, modeling Halloween Firecrackers Bows made with fabric scraps:

Could you just DIE from the cuteness?!?!?!  She may not be a squishy three year old anymore, but she is still a beauty!  Here she is modeling this year’s Halloween Firecracker Bows, made with ribbons:

Isn’t she a doll?  She’s my future daughter-in-law.  Her mother and I have decreed it to be so.  😉

Now let’s talk about how crazy simple it is to create firecracker hair bows.  My mom made them for us for several different holidays, and she also made them for my entire drill team in high school to match our uniforms.  We always wore them to football games with our high, high ponytails.  Fun times.

Firecracker bows are so cute, versatile, and EASY!  Begin by grabbing a hair elastic, a whole bunch of ribbon (these were all from my stash and came from random places, other than the Halloween specific ones, which I found at Hobby Lobby for $1 each), scissors, and some FrayCheck.

Prepare by cutting the ribbon or fabric strips to your desired length. Mine were not all exactly the same.  I would guess that they ranged in length from 6-8 inches.

Tie the ribbon or fabric strip in a knot around the elastic. Repeat over and over.

Now go back and add FrayCheck to the ends of the ribbons if you want them to hold up long term.  I usually put the bows on a sheet of wax paper first so it doesn’t get all over my counters.

All done!  Easy, easy, easy, and my girl gets compliments everywhere she goes when she wears them!  She doesn’t have that FABULOUS orange hair to match them, but she’s still pretty darn cute.

This little girl had way too much fun being my model.  She’s such a little firecracker herself!  And isn’t her mama a beauty as well?  Two of my favorite people in the world!
