Easter Maxi Skirt Sewing Tutorial

Good morning. This is Angela again, today with a fun Easter maxi skirt sewing tutorial for you!

Who is ready for spring? Me!!! I am ready for flowers and the warm sun. Because of this desire, I have been itching to start my Easter crafting. The first Easter project on my list was to make my daughter a skirt to wear through the Easter season. This won’t be her Easter dress, but a fun skirt to wear throughout the month of March.

Make your little lady an Easter maxi skirt (or knee length skirt) with this simple sewing tutorial. I love the bunny pockets!
I found this cute Easter egg fabric at JoAnn’s. At first it was just going to be a knee length skirt, but I thought it would be fun to make my daughter her first maxi skirt.  An Easter maxi skirt – so fun!
If you want to make one, you will need:
Fabric- how much depends on size. How to measure explained below.
Elastic- Cut 1 inch shorter then the waist measurement.
Felt
Embroidery thread and needle
First you want to determine how much fabric you will need. Measure the waist and then double it. That is the width of the fabric that you will need. For the length, just measure from the waist to the ankle, then add two inches. That’s how much you will need for length.
For example. My daughters waist was 21 inches and the length I needed was 18 inches. I cute my fabric 42 inches by 20 inches.
Then you want to make the casing for the elastic and hem the skirt. I used 1 inch wide elastic so I folded over the skirt 1 1/4 inches and sewed it down. For the hem I folded over the fabric about 1/2 inch and sewed that down.
Next you want to pull the elastic through the casing that you just sewed. I use a safety pin to help me pull the elastic through. Once the elastic is pulled through, fold your skirt in half with the right sides facing and sew the two sides of your skirt together. Now your skirt is complete!
Next you want to cut out your bunnies.  The pattern that I used can be downloaded HERE.
Next take your embroidery thread and hand sew on the bunnies. I placed the bunnies about an inch down from the elastic waistband. I only sewed around the outside of the bunny so they could be used as pockets.
You are done!!! Time for an Easter egg hunt!
