DIY Slouch Beanie

Hello Bombshell Bling readers! I’m Carissa and I blog about all things DIY at Carissa Miss. Currently I’m getting ready for my biggest DIY yet, finishing our basement! I love figuring out how to create things I love for cheap. Like this campaign style IKEA RAST hack or my daughter’s Elsa dress. Today, I’m sharing an easy tutorial for making a slouch beanie. Perfect for fall football games or for visiting the pumpkin patch.
Start with a knit fabric. This could be an old sweater or T-shirt. I love to use jersey knits from Girl Charlee like this blue and gray stripe. {sign up for a new account and get 10% off your first purchase! Make sure you use my referral code 17170!!}
Measure the radius of your head AND from your forehead to top of your head. Since the fabric is stretchy, make sure to cut so that the part stretching across your forehead is the direction with the most stretch. This fabric has about 25% stretch and since I made it for my 10 month old, the pattern is 7.5″x 9″. You want it to fit snugly, but not give you a headache! Cut two on the fold of the same fabric or different if you want it to be reversible.
Unfold and sew at bottom right sides together so you have one big piece. Make sure you match up your stripes or pattern if you have one.
Fold the end pieces and match right sides together and sew along side from fold to tip as marked in the picture
They you’ll take the right sides together and match up the unfinished seam and top and sew leaving a small opening to fold right side out.
Once it’s right side out, tuck the side with the unfinished opening into the other side creating the lining and add a pom-pom if you like!

I know, he’s pretty much the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen! and he’s almost 1! tear!

Here’s something for the girls: I made these bows for my daughter to wear for the football games too.
Thanks Sarah for letting me visit today.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was trying to sew up a beanie from Ottobre magazine (swedish issue 4/2015) and had a hard time figuring out the directions – even though I am Danish my swedish “aint no good”. Basically you just saved me 🙂

    I am so bummed. I cannot find where/what link to click to get the pattern. 🙁 If someone could tell me, I would greatly appreciate it. I really want to try to make this hat!

      Hi Blakeleigh, this is Sarah. This was a guest post, but from what I can see she made her own pattern and explained how to do it using the measurements of your own/your kids’ head in the paragraph right under the pattern picture. Good luck! 🙂

      I’m so sorry, but I don’t know how to answer your question. This post was written by a former guest poster of mine that I haven’t been in touch with in years. SORRY!

        The total length for a newborn is 13″. The hat s/b 7″ high up to the botton of the points. Hope this helps you
