Back to School Washi Tape Art

Tis the season….for back to school!!  I love the air of excitement around back to school, although it is also full of stress and busy busy weeks.  But I just get excited about new school supplies, bright colors, learning, routines, and the beginning of fall, which is my favorite season.  I have always felt this way, except the years that I was a teacher, of course.  After my first year of teaching, I sobbed at the end of the summer because it was time to go back!  LOL.  Teaching is hard work, people.  Be sure to show those teachers some love!

Today I am going to share with you a fun back-to-school themed project that I made last week in a jiffy: my back-to-school apple washi tape art project.  It could be used as a teacher gift (although I still maintain that gift cards and nice notes are the best teacher gifts of all, as discussed in THIS post), or it could be made just to put out at home to get everyone excited for the upcoming school year.  I love to decorate for holidays, and I loved the finished product of the idea so much that I decided to keep it for myself and just give my boy’s kindergarten teacher a loaf of my mama’s zucchini bread instead to let her know we were excited for the upcoming year in her classroom.  (No, I do NOT think that start-of-school-year gifts are necessary or expected AT ALL, but I had an extra loaf of bread, so she was the lucky recipient.)  Next year I’ll add a fun back-to-school-ish wreath and a few other things and have a fun little decorated area for celebrating back-to-school like I would a minor holiday.  I’m pretty excited about it, but I’m sort of geeky about stuff like that.

Now let’s get on to the project!  I used my Cricut Expression for this, but you could totally just Google “apple” and get a picture to trace and cut out.  Here are the supplies that I used:

*  unfinished wood frame (from Walmart)
*  green paint (I used emerald green spray paint.)
*  white card stock
*  Washi Tape (I got mine at Target a while back.  There are LOAD of places online and in store to find similar things.)
*  Cricut and Classic Font Cartridge

Start by painting your frame green.

Use your Cricut and your Classic Font Cartridge (or a stencil/image and scissors) to cut out an apple in the center of a piece of white card stock.  Also cut and small square the will be covered with washi tape and taped to the back of the apple card stock.

Cover the small square of card stock with strips of washi tape.

Tape the washi tape covered square to the back of the apple card stock.

Now just slip your apple picture into the frame!  Cute, right?!
