16 Sassy One Piece Swimsuits

Today I am sharing with you 16 sassy one piece swimsuits that I have gathered up from around the web.  I was inspired to put this post together when I recently saw a post in a mom group on Facebook where someone shared one of the gazillion articles out there about moms wearing bikinis.  I DO NOT HAVE A MORAL STANCE ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD WEAR A BIKINI.  THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS POST IS ABOUT OR INSPIRED BY!  WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT!!  The reason I was inspired to gather up these images of sassy, fun, very NON FRUMPY one piece swimming suits is because I was astonished that the overwhelmingly prevailing attitude on the thread was the moms should ALL be wearing bikinis or else they are just giving up and accepting that they can’t be fashionable because they are “ashamed of their bodies.”

DUDE.  That’s a pretty big assumption to make!  First of all, choosing to wear a certain type of swimsuit does not perfectly reflect your state of healthy body image.  For instance, I wore a two piece in high school as a teeny little dancer with killer abs.  I totally thought I was fat.  Ay ay ay.  Teenagers.  Seriously, though, the sexiest that I have ever felt in a swimsuit was in a red retro style Juicy Couture one piece that I massively splurged on!  (See the ridiculous, posed picture below, just barely pregnant with baby #1.)  I still have that suit sitting in my basement, just waiting patiently for me to successfully lose 75 pounds so that I can wear it again.  (Keep dreaming, my sexy red friend!)  😉

Secondly, WHO SAYS ONE PIECES CAN’T BE STYLISH?!  My skinny mini little sister with a crazy hot bod – even after baby! – chooses to wear retro style one pieces.  They’re freaking hot on her!  She loves the style, and that’s all there is to it.  One pieces CAN be cute, and that is what I am setting out to prove here today by helping you find a fabulous one if you aren’t into baring your belly.

Lastly, more than one woman commented that if moms weren’t wearing bikinis that they were “setting a bad example and teaching their daughters to be ashamed of their bodies.”  I’m sorry . . . what?  Choosing to wear something in which you feel comfortable and flattered is not setting a bad example for your child!  My daughter doesn’t care that I choose to tankinis these days.  She cares that I am in the water playing with her.  I feel passionately that being super thin and fashionable is not the only way to teach your children confidence and the meaning of true beauty.  In fact, I wrote a whole essay entitled “What My Mother’s Battle with Breast Cancer Taught Me About True Beauty” about how my mother taught me the most about true beauty and my true worth when she was swollen from steroids and bald from chemo.  Nothing could have taught those lessons to me more powerfully than her example of courage and strength.  Obviously, I don’t believe there is anything wrong with getting all dolled up – I am, after all, someone who loves bling so much that she named her blog after it, and I was once told that I “wore red lipstick like it was chapstick.”  I just think that me dressing up will never be the most important part of my example to my daughter on what it means to be a strong, confident woman.

Now I will step off of my mini soapbox and hand the reigns to someone else to drive my point home.  If you wear a one piece swimsuit are you automatically un-sexy, un-fashionable, and ashamed of your body?  I mean, are bikinis REALLY the only way to be a glamorous, confident woman?  Let’s see . . . what do you think, Marilyn??

Hey look at that — she agrees with me!  If a one piece is sassy enough for one of the most glamorous starlets of all time then a one piece is good enough for me!  Now have fun browsing and shopping!

Two other great places to find swimsuits are Zulily and Jane.com.  They are both “deal” sites, so the options come and go, but Zulily carries lots of high quality brand name stuff at deep discounts, and Jane.com is very hip and trendy.

Oh hey, while we are discussing one piece swimsuits, let’s talk little girls.  It is ALLLLL about Janie & Jack!!  Yes, they are expensive, but WORTH IT!  Amazing quality, and just THE. CUTEST. EVER.  Oh yeah, and almost all of them have coordinating retro style swim caps.  True story.  Here are a few from the 2015 season.  Totally bought the flamingo one and the matching cap. {Pic below.}

I hope you are inspired to grab a fun new suit and to feel confident and sexy, even if you aren’t a bikini gal!  Channel your inner Marilyn, hot mama!  😉

    I really love the Ruffle Halter Maillot from Anthropologie, And also love the fact that you have inserted the picture of Marilyn Monroe too. I am a Big fan of her. I am thinking on buying a one piece suit, However I am bit skeptical about How it will look on me.

    I love these collections! It’s important to be modest in everything you do. Do you have any recommendations for maternity? These are so cute.
