On Monday I was telling my son how excited I was for the release of FROZEN the movie on DVD and I told him that I thought we should have a little FROZEN themed party to celebrate. I asked him what he would like to do for our party and he said we should do something fun to surprise Jade, his little sister. Forget Anna’s heart, it was MY heart that melted just a little bit when he said that. I asked him why and he said, “Because FROZEN is about love and I love Jade.” Seriously. I am not making this up. How did such a sweet child come from this feisty mama? I may never know!
I love that he wanted to throw a surprise FROZEN DVD viewing party for his little sister because to me FROZEN is not just about love in general, it is especially about familial and sibling love. Anna and Elsa have been estranged for years because of Elsa’s secret, and yet Anna loves her sister completely unconditionally. Her love for Elsa never wavers. That is how I feel about my two little sisters as well, and I am so grateful to see that type of loving bond already forming for my own children.
Tuesday morning we woke up to snow flurries outside of our windows here in Colorado, which only seemed appropriate. We were so excited that out we headed to Walmart in the snow to buy the DVD, all three of us still wearing out PJs. Even mom. Classy. 😉
While we were at Walmart we headed to the toy aisle to find some FROZEN merchandise to enhance our little party. My boy was very determined to get a Kristoff toy, which had me worried since I had only seen Elsa and Anna toys, but SUCCESS!! I was thrilled to find a Kristoff Doll to accompany Anna. We also chose a baby Anna doll for Jade, and I snuck some books into the cart as well to surprise my little book-loving guy.
At home we put Princess Jade to bed and Callum and I got planning. I asked if he wanted to do a variety of fancy, cutesy treats, and he replied, “We should stick a marshmallow on a stick.” Alrighty then…… We compromised with marshmallow “snowmen” on straws, and he drew faces (and other decor) on the marshmallows with food-friendly markers. He was so excited about them. Cutie.
We each came up with a game for the party. His choice was “snowman bowling.” I thought it would be good to stack up toilet paper rolls and draw faces on the top rolls, but he insisted that EVERY roll needed a face. Love that goofy kid.
Snowman bowling was a hit with both kids.
I suggested that we do the amazing Frozen Scavenger Hunt that the gals from My Sister’s Suitcase shared during Disney Week. It was so much fun!!
The scavenger hunt ended in the big bathtub full of the FROZEN toys that we bought.
Now it was just time to WATCH AND PLAY!!! YAY!!! As you can see, the toys were a HIT, as was the movie. Great story, great songs, great characters!
What a fun afternoon! If you want to have your own fun FROZEN watching party then head to Walmart pronto! The FROZEN DVD is available at Walmart as of March 18th, with a price drop from $16.96 to $14.96. Also, look for the coupon on specially marked packages of Eggo Waffles (24 count) for a $5 off offer for the FROZEN DVD! Seriously…..$10 for FROZEN?? Ummm…yes, please!
