*The following review is part of the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores® National Craft Month campaign. I was compensated for this post, but all ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
I am so excited to be sharing my spring wreaths with you today! I was pretty excited when I got an email from the talented team behind Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores inviting me to participate in their National Craft Month campaign, all in celebration of spring trends. I was also excited to have access to an EXTRA COUPON for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more! Score. Anyone with a crafty bone in their body knows that a Jo-Ann coupon is like liquid gold! I hoard those things! You can print one off as well, and be sure to check out the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores website for loads of springtime crafting inspiration!
When I received news that I was going to participate in this campaign I chose two spring trends about which I am wild: radiant orchid and florals. The two go hand in hand, dontcha think? I decided to make over my Flirty Pennant Banner Wreaths because my son dropped them down the stairs and the pennant banner broke off. However, I must say that I am actually very glad he broke those wreaths, because I am much happier with how these turned out! I love my new spring wreaths!
Here is what you will need to make one of these spring wreaths for yourself:
* 18 inch straw wreath form
* fabric strips
* fake flowers (one group of orchids, one of tall thin flowers, and 2-3 beaded “leaf” strands)
* glitter ribbon
* electrical tape
* hot glue and glue sticks
* scissors and/or floral wire cutters
Start with two 18 inch straw wrapped wreaths. I love how cheap the straw wreaths are. Styrofoam is expensive. Blech. Do not unwrap the wreaths! That will just make things messy.
Now cut strips of fabric. Mine were about 3 inches wide. Hot glue a strip to the wreath and start wrapping, dabbing hot glue every couple of wraps to keep things firmly in place. Make sure all of your strips end on back of the wreath, along with all of the dabs of glue. Once I finished wrapping the wreaths I sprayed them with a layer of acrylic sealant spray.
Divide your flowers up between your wreaths (if you are making two spring wreaths). Cut the thin strands off from their stems.
Arrange your flowers the way that you want them, making sure to vary the heights and so they are going to hang/drape the way that you want them to. Then wrap the stems as tightly as you can with electrical tape. (You should pull off the large leaves first.)
Use scissors and wire cutters to cut all of the stems to a similar length.
Time to attach the flower bunch to your fabric-wrapped wreath form. Dump hot glue on the back of it and then press it onto the spot on the wreath form where you would like it attached.
Now glue the glittered ribbon to the back of the wreath and tightly wrap wrap wrap the ribbon around the wreath so that it covers up the electrical tape. Dot with hot glue in the back every once in a while and allow it to cool a bit before you cut the ribbon and let it go. Also do one ribbon strand higher up in the floral arrangement to attach some of the taller back flowers to the wreath. The glitter ribbon should completely cover the electrical tape.
You are all done! Truly! I love love love the way that they look on my front door!
What do you think? Are you a fan of the floral trend or the radiant orchid trend? What spring crafting will YOU be doing this month?
Happy Spring!
