Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse

As you know, the other night I got to send my boys off to watch Arenacross motorcycle racing.  To say my four year old was excited would be a tad bit of an understatement.  You will read a review from his point of view in the next couple of days.  As I sent him off on his Daddy Date for burgers, fries, and motorcycle racing, I felt quite jealous.  After all, my baby girl and I just had a hot date to meet my dad at a tile store to help plan the backsplash for his kitchen remodel.  Yee-freaking-haw.  (I know that may sound thrilling to some of you DIYers and design nuts out there.  Maybe you haven’t been to fifteen granite places with my dad recently……ay ay ay.  More on the remodel another day.  MUCH more.)

Miraculously, about an hour after the men left for their manly night out I got an email in my inbox asking if I would like to review a production in downtown Denver of the play version of one of my favorite children’s books, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse.  YES, PLEASE!!!!  Ack!  I am so excited!

What you may or may not know about me is that I used to be an elementary school teacher.  And Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes was one of my favorite books to read with my third grade students.  In fact, I love all of the books by Kevin Henkes and own them all!  They are so cute and fun for little kids, and older kids love them as well because they always have funny little comic bubbles in the illustrations that add to the humor.  They rock.

Additionally, my husband and I met when we were both serving as performing missionaries for our church one summer, so we love to perform in and watch live theater together.  For that reason, it is even more exciting for me to get the opportunity to share this experience with my little boy.

Aunt Rachel is all lined up to babysit the little princess, and my little dragon and I are going on a Mommy Date this Tuesday, complete with Mommy’s favorite food……..sweets.  Heehee.  I can’t wait to tell you all about it!  If you are in Denver be sure to take the opportunity to share live theater with your little ones in an environment that is tailored specifically for them!  Details below.

Denver Children’s Theatre presents “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse” running Mar 10 – Apr 28 on Sundays Only (no performances 3/31 & 4/14). Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse is based on a series of books by Kevin Henkes, the winner of the 2005 Caldecott medal. Through clever dialogue, fast-paced scenes, realistic characters, and yes, even cheese, the award-winning playwright Kevin Kling creates an entertaining and insightful tale. For tickets or more information, call 303-316-6360 or visit ticketing website:https://www.vendini.com/ticket-software.html?t=tix&e=6d627aaaa03b7a2bbb736f8e8ee6db14.
