I don’t know about you, but every time the New Year rolls around I feel inspired to take a good hard look at our family’s health patterns and make some changes.  During the summer it is very easy for us to be active.  Riding bikes, the neighborhood swim team, walks to the park, very simple hikes in the mountains, and night games with the neighbors all get the family moving and active without much concerted effort.  However, January here in Colorado is a rather dismal season, and it is just too dang cold to do any of those things!  As a result, we often stay in and get cozy on the couch.

While there isn’t a thing wrong with cozying up with a book or a good movie, I like to try to balance that with some more active endeavors for my kiddos as well, whether that is organized activities such as ballet or karate, or sending them outside to have a snowball fight.  That is why when Horizon Organic asked me to write a post about our family’s goals for the New Year I knew that I wanted to focus on getting my kiddos (and myself!) in motion.

I decided to do create some fun tracking healthy habits printables to use and share.  Of course cows were on my mind, because my kids are OBSESSED with Horizon Organic milk.  It is seriously SO good.  I printed them out, laminated them, and now each week they try to check off at least 5 days of MOOVEMENT.  If they do this successfully we can do a fun family activity or outing as a reward!  And, of course, all that movement works up an appetite, and Horizon Organic milk and cracker sandwiches hit the snacky spot everytime! (I spotted our 6 year old neighbor stuffing his coat pockets with the cracker sandwiches when I told him he had to stop snacking and head home for dinner.  True story.  Haha!)
