USA Cork Board Map

Hello, it’s Angela again.  I love to travel, and I am excited to share with you my USA Cork Board Map! I love everything about traveling! I love exploring new places and eating new foods. I love the planning and the packing and the airport. I even love traveling with my kids! I really enjoy sharing my love of travel with my children. The project I’m sharing today is something I have been planning to do for a long time! I wanted to give my son a reminder of all of the places that he has traveled. He is only 4 years old. He doesn’t remember every vacation we have taken, but I want him to have a place to be reminded. I created a cork board map that shows all of the places that he has visited. He loves it! He loves asking about the different places on his map and he loves listening to stories about our trips.

Want to make your own? Here is how.

You will need:

Cork Board (Mine is 24×36 purchased at JoAnn’s with a 40% off coupon it was only $9. This is a really inexpensive project)

2 rolls adhesive shelf liner

USA Stencil

Paint and paint brush

Fabric

Pins

Paper

Glue stick

First thing you want to do is create your USA stencil. My cork board is pretty large. It is 24 x 36. I wanted to cut out my stencil with my Cricut. The Cricut will only cut 12 x12 or 24 x 12. I only have a 12 x12 mat. I divided my US map into 6 12 x12 sections and cut it that way. Once everything was cut out I had 6 different sections of the USA and I had to piece them all together. I used adhesive shelf liner- which you can purchase at the dollar store- for my stencil. That way my it could stick to the cork while I painted.

If you are planning to use a 24×36 inch cork board then feel free to use my stencils. You can download each of the six sections here. 1,2,3,4,5,6

After you have pieced your stencil together and have stuck it to the cork, the next step will be to paint. After your paint is dry, just peel off the stencil.
Next step is to make your flags for the map. I cut out 3 x 1 inch strips of paper. Then I folded them in half and glued them around a pin. Then I cut out white paper to place on top of my paper flags so I could write in the name of the place and the date that we visited. I even added a little Mickey head for all of our Disney vacations. We are big Disney fans!
After you have placed your pins, cut two strips of fabric and pin them to the back of your cork board. Now all you have to do is hang it up.

Not too far from the map is a gallery wall (which is in progress) that has a picture from each trip. My son actually requested it. Now my son has plenty of reminders of all of his fun adventures!

I’d probably just google “usa map” and trace it. 🙂
