It’s October!!!!! My favorite season of the year, my favorite month of the year, and, of course, one of my favorite holidays of the year: HALLOWEEN!!!!! Children’s literature is yet another one of my favorite things, so this post got me very excited. It’s the combining of books and Halloween. Dreamy!
We have a huge collection of books (peek inside my collection here), because I was an elementary school teacher, because I am an Usborne Books and More Independent Consultant, and because I am just a bookworm. My holiday book collections are my favorite. Here are 25+ of our favorite Halloween picture books from my collection. Yes, we do have more than this. I have problems. 😉

(I have a serious infatuation with wiener dogs.) 🙂
Noisy Spooky Book
(It’s a giant board book with sounds. SO cute. SO fun!!)
The Nightmare before Christmas
(Tim Burton’s original short story that inspired the movie!)
Happy Halloween, Curious George
(A giant board book of cute poems and retro illustrations. Very charming.)
Curious George Goes to a Costume Party
(A classic tale of Curious George getting up to mischief.)
Llamas in Pajamas
(A simple phonics reader tale of some llamas who have a not-so-spooky Halloween themed sleepover. Cute story, but simple enough for little ones to read on their own!)
At the Old Haunted House
(A rhyming and counting story. It is my three year old’s all time favorite, and it’s a quick read.)
Room on the Broom
(Fun little tale, and there is also a cartoon version of it on Netflix!)
(A tale of a Haunted House, a puzzle on each page – can YOU solve the mystery?)
The Night Before Halloween
(A fun spoof of The Night Before Christmas. The spooks prep a party for trick-or-treaters.)
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything
(A tale of bravery in the face of a menacing jack-o-lantern. A classic book that I remember from my own childhood.)
The Best Halloween Hunt Ever
(A search and find book.)
Silly Ghosts: A Haunted Pop-Up Book
(Glittery and FABULOUS!)
Happy Halloween, Little Critter!
(Little critter has fun at a Halloween party. Flap pages to open which reveal which friends are under each costume.)
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat!
(There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly . . . Halloween style!)
Where’s My Mummy?
(Little Mummy gets lost playing hide and seek and bumps into lots of other Halloween creatures. Don’t worry . . . Mommy Mummy finds him!)
Ten Timid Ghosts
(A cute counting book that’s a spin off of the song, “There were five in the bed, and the little one said, ‘Roll over, roll over!”)
(Poor skeleton . . . how will he EVER get rid of those hiccups?? Hic, hic, hic…)
A Very Brave Witch
(A cute tale of a witch who is scared of humans until she meets one on Halloween night.)
Too Many Pumpkins
(This little old lady HATES pumpkins…and then pumpkins take over her yard! A cute story about how she takes this catastrophe and uses it to bond with her neighbors.)
Click, Clack Boo!
(The rascally farm animals from the hit book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin are making Farmer Brown nutty again when they throw a Halloween party.)
The Haunted Ghoul Bus
(A kid in costume accidentally boards the Ghoul Bus and has a spooky great time.)
The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat
(Brother and Sister learn not to judge a book by its cover.)
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
(The book version of the hit cartoon. I prefer the movie, but the book is fun too. You can’t beat the Peanuts gang!)
I am adding this one in 2016. The publishers sent it to me to check out and we all thought it was an adorable little Halloween board book!
If You’re Spooky and You Know It!
(Designed for babies and toddlers, but my 4 and 7 year old thought it was fun to read together!)
