This tutorial will help you make this beautiful and unique wooden statement necklace. Chunky and fun, it is a perfect addition to your wardrobe and will match almost anything!
Some time back, the husband of a friend of mine asked me to create his wife a custom necklace for a holiday as a gift. This fabulously fun wooden statement necklace was the creation that I was inspired to make. Would you like to make your own wooden statement necklace? I bet you would! This wooden statement necklace is unique, chunky, eye-catching, and it matches almost everything. Luckily for you, I took pictures of the process, so now I can share it with you as well! Now let’s make a wooden statement necklace! 🙂
Here are the supplies that you will need. I believe that I got mine at JoAnn Fabrics, but you will find similar materials and supplies at Hobby Lobby or Michaels as well.
- wooden beads in a variety of sizes and shapes (round and oval)
- large, funky gold chain
- large gold jump rings (2+)
- beading wire
- gold crimp tubes (6+)
- wire snips
- crimping pliers
- flat nosed pliers
- (Bead Design Board – can be done without, but it will make it easier!)
(I know there are gold claps and small gold jump rings in the photo, but I did not end up using them, so please disregard those items.)
Lay out a plan for your three strands (all three wouldn’t fit at once for me). Mine were each about 15 inches long. A bead design board, like the one shown above, helps a lot with this, but if you don’t have one you can always use a ruler/measuring tape. You want all three strands to be about the same length.
Get a large gold jump ring and tape the closure shut. String the strands of beads onto beading wire. Use a gold crimp tube and crimping pliers to attach each strand to the SAME jump ring (shown above).
Time to pull out that funky chain! Decide on the length depending on where you want your necklace to hang. I attached the beads to one end, held it up and draped it around my neck, decided on the length, and cut the chain off at that point. I hope that makes sense.
Take the tape off of the large gold jump ring. Use your flat nose pliers to gently bend open the jump ring just enough to put the chain through it. Close the jump ring.
YAY! You are now done with your beautiful wooden statement necklace!
This beauty will match SOOOO many things, so grab your new wooden statement necklace and go make a statement!
