Today I am here to share with you the washi tape initial wall art that I made as part of the collage wall that I put together when I helped my dad redecorate his family room. I love the way this giant initial turned out! My dad was a bit skeptical about the bicycle washi tape, but I think a little whimsy in life is a good thing, don’t you?
Let’s talk about how I created this fun washi tape wall art. I started with a GIANT wooden letter, which I believe I found at Hobby Lobby (use a coupon!). I painted the top of the letter white, so that the thinner washi would have a white background, and the edges of the letter black, so that it would match the frames on the wall. Here is what happened next . . .
I gathered all of my black and white washi tape. Yes, I had that all on hand. I have some serious personal problems. 😉
Next I just started going for it with the washi. I laid it out in strips across the letter and didn’t worry about trimming until the end. I also chose not to do an exact pattern, but mixed it up a bit. I did try to space the bicycles out fairly evenly, though, since they really stand out on the letter. One of the things that I love about washi is that you can always reposition it if you don’t like where you placed it initially, similar to masking tape.
To finish up, I trimmed the edges of the washi tape off and then I painted a thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the washi and just over the edges to seal everything firmly to the letter.
All done! What do you think? Now let’s take a look at the wall art in action, shall we?
I am so excited about the way that my washi tape initial wall art turned out. It is such a fun addition to our family room gallery wall. Now go get busy and make your own!

I have a bunch of washing tape in my stash, and I forget to do anything with it. Your big “W” looks great! I love the patterns in your black & white washing tape. It looks great on your gallery wall.

I love how you used tape in black and whites. I personally have avoided buying even one roll of washi tape because I know it would become an obsession to keep buying more. But I do love how this project turned out. Thanks for sharing at #HomeMattersParty
