Hi Friends! I made this TRICK OR TREAT washi tape sign a number of years ago, and I realized that I never shared it. I apologize that the photos are not perfect, but they are good enough to learn the process, even if they were taken years ago with a lesser photo lens. 😉 This is a simple project, and I enjoy the sign every year!
For this project you will need a long poster frame, as shown below, lots of fun Halloween washi tape, black and white cardstock, a glue stick, and a way to cut your letters.
Halloween washi tape just makes the heart happy, doesn’t it?!
As you can see, I used a Cricut Expression cutting machine and the Cricut Classic Font cartridge to get my letters, but you could use anything – stencil, dye cutting machine, scissors, whatever! Cut out your letters and line them up to make sure they are the correct size for your frame. I made my “or” much smaller than the other words.
Next I wrapped stripes of washi tape one by one on my letters, as shown above. Note: The backs don’t have to look pretty! 😉
Once your letters are wrapped, arrange them as you would like on the back of the poster paper insert and glue them down. Now . . . I intended to stop at that step, but if you look at the picture above you may see why I couldn’t do so . . . TREAT OR TRICK! Whoops! Hahaha! I’m such an airhead sometimes. Here’s how I fixed it, and, even though it was more work, I actually like the finished outcome better than if I had glued them correctly in the first place.
I simple cut carefully around the letters so they now have a white edge! Then I taped together several sheets of black cardstock to reach the correct length for the poster frame and used that as the background. Glue on the lettters and it’s done! Voila!
Isn’t it festive?! I attach it each year with 3M Command Strips. Those things are freaking AH-MAZE-ING!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I know this is YEARS after you’ve published this activity but I just found it on Pinterest and did it with an 11-year-old student in Barcelona who loved it.
Thanks for the fantastic idea that can be applied to so many different holidays or just using the child’s name
