Hello, hello!! I apologize for the late hour of this S’mores Saturdays post. Better late than never, right?!
It has been a doozy of a week, which is why this post is so tardy. I had posts planned for every day this week, actually. The photos are taken and edited, but nothing is getting finalized. I just can’t seem to get on top of my A Game. My sister and her family moved away to another state this week which has brought a great sense of loss and sadness into my heart. What used to be a thirty minute drive is now a 13 hour drive. I can’t quite grasp how sad I am about them leaving, although I am definitely excited for them that my brother-in-law is finally done with school and training and now he can begin his profession and they can begin their “real” adult lives. I’m just sad for myself to have lost my proximity to them. Luckily, my other sister is coming to visit this week. I’m not sure just how badly I would be floundering if she wasn’t! Sigh. Also….tomorrow is a very big, very sad anniversary for our family. It is the ten year anniversary of my dear mother’s death. More on that tomorrow. Probably. We will see if I can pull myself together. I am hoping to do a Sunday Spotlight on my mama tomorrow and a Chocolate Week in her honor since she was such a chocoholic. MANY fun recipes and things planned for that, and it is being sponsored by Coldstone Chocolates. But right now I feel as if I may never get organized and motivated again. So we will see how things shake out.
Enough of my pity party. The fact is that I have a lovely life with my little family, and that today during my daughter’s nap my son and I made a fun kid-friendly s’mores inspired treat. He loved getting to be in charge of “making” it, and he also loved eating them when I wasn’t looking. Such a cute little rascal….
Way back at Easter time we made Marshmallow Bunny Dippers together, and my boy has been asking to make dippers again ever since. So, today I woke up and realized that I had no S’mores Saturday post prepared and decided that S’mores Dippers were the solution to my problem. Simple, fun for kids, and tasty! Let’s do this thing!
Gather up jumbo puffed marshmallows, melting chocolate, graham crackers crumbs, and sticks or straws. Prep by placing a sheet of wax paper on the counter and sticking the sticks/straws into the marshmallows.
Melt your chocolate/candy coating and dip the marshmallows. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off and place on the wax paper to harden slightly prior to the next step.
Dip the slightly cooled chocolate-dipped marshmallow into the graham cracker crumbs. Allow the chocolate to cool completely at this point.
That’s it! You are done! A piece of cake, right? Except a lot easier than a piece of cake in all reality.
I love that Callum insists on documenting our cooking and projects together now, just like his blogging mama. It never ceases to charm and amuse me. And yes, he is in his pajamas. He never got out of them today. And neither did I. That’s just how we roll around here. 🙂
Be sure to come back in the next day or so for the kickoff for CHOCOLATE WEEK! You won’t want to miss it!!
