This kitty cat sleep mask is the cutest thing ever!! A perfect gift for a sweet little girl or a fabulous party favor for a slumber party!
Several months ago my daughter became OBSESSED with needing “eye blinds.” I wasn’t sure what she meant by “eye blinds,” until she started wearing this to bed . . .
HILARIOUS, right?! At that point I figured out that my little pirate wanted a sleep mask. Not just any sleep mask would do, though. It needed to be a kitty cat sleep mask. Or “kitty cat eye blinds,” I should say. 🙂 Here’s the updated version in action . . . (I *LOVE* the gloves too, don’t you?!)
I am happy to report that this kitty cat sleep mask is one of the easiest sewing projects that I have ever done. Here are step-by-step instructions for you so that you can make you own. I think they would be the CUTEST party favor for a little girl’s sleepover party, don’t you?!
For this project you will need the following: a sheet of felt (I used glittery, because, well BLING!), puff paint (once again, I used glittery), and elastic (mine was 1″ wide), along with things like pins and thread.
To create this kitty cat sleep mask you will need the CAT SLEEP MASK PATTERN DOWNLOAD that I created. You could also easily guesstimate the size and shape yourself. My pattern is not *perfectly* symmetrical. I created the sleep mask without a pattern and just traced it afterward. My sleep mask was created for a six year old, so the mask is well sized for a kid that age. You may want to adjust it in size for a child much younger or older than six-ish.
Use the pattern to cut out the felt pieces.
Lay out the ears on the bottom layer of felt. Place the top layer of felt on top and pin the ears in place. Cut elastic and place it between the two layers, as shown below. Pin in place. (My elastic was 16″ based on a measurement around my daughter’s head.)
Sew around the edges of the kitty cat sleep mask, being sure to sew the ears and elastic into place.
Time to add the kitty cat face! This you will have to freehand on your own. Slowly and carefully paint the face on, and then put it up high so little fingers can’t touch it while it dries. Let’s just say that a certain six year old got a bit excited about her new kitty cat sleep mask and ran her finger through the wet paint and I had to start over. That does NOT make for a happy mama. Oy.
Ta-da! You are done! You now have the cutest little kitty cat sleep mask around. Now go find a cutie to wear it! 🙂
