This Halloween plate wall is the perfect classy, but fun and festive Halloween decor for your home in the month of October!
Good afternoon, guys! Alright, I know, I know, Halloween is over. I really need to let it go. But it’s SO HAAAARRRRDDD!!! I just love it so much! Look, I know I have some serious personal problems, but humor me by letting me share ONE more Halloween post with you, and then we are on to Thanksgiving and Christmas — both of which I ALSO absolutely adore, for the record! So here we go: HALLOWEEN PLATE WALL.
***WARNING: YOU WILL SEE TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF PLATE WALL BELOW. (A.K.A. SOME VARIATION IN PLATES) THIS IS BECAUSE THE FIRST YEAR ONE OF THE HEAVIER PLATES WASN’T HUNG SECURELY ENOUGH AND FELL, TAKING DOWN A FEW OTHERS WITH IT. THEY BROKE, SO I HAD TO FIND NEW PLATES TO REPLACE THEM AND REARRANGE THE WALL A BIT. I THINK THEY ARE BOTH CUTE, SO I’M JUST INCLUDING BOTH OF THEM.***
Years ago we moved in with my dad, and he has a fantastic, very grand curving staircase. My late mother had an exceedingly large peach and blue (mostly peach) flower arrangement in the curve of that staircase, but it was rather outdated. To say the least. I helped plan a kitchen remodel and then redecorated the house for my dad (which I still need to share here on the blog!!) when we moved in, and part of that process was removing the peach flowers and replacing it with a round table topped with photos and such, along with a plate wall on the curving wall above it.
October rolled around that year (it was YEARS ago . . . I keep meaning to share this and then forgetting, which is why I am just getting it DONE now so I don’t forget again) and I had the idea to switch up the plate wall for a festive Halloween plate wall. I set out on a mission to find Halloween-y plates. I had some success, but it was harder than I thought it would be! People just don’t want to invest in many Halloween specific plates . . . imagine that! 😉 I used some of the white ones from the “regular” wall, bought what I could find, and I actually MADE the rest! I bought plain white, black, and orange plates, and then I pulled up all of the random supplies from my craft supply stash that I thought may work to decorate. (I BOUGHT PLASTIC PLATES WHEN POSSIBLE BECAUSE I KNEW THEY’D BE SO MUCH EASIER TO HANG!)
Let me show you what I did to create some of the plates . . .
I used vinyl and my glorious Cricut cutting machine to cut the skeleton face, witch hat, and BOO! for the plates shown above. I added a line of sticker rhinestones next to the witch hat and a few strips of glitter tape on the BOO! plate to spice things up.
I used a variety of Halloween washi tapes to spice up the plate shown above. In all honesty, I don’t love it as much as I love the vinyl/Cricut decorated ones, but I do like all of the variety and colors that it adds to the wall.
This little plate was a bargain, but I thought the black owl face was a bit dull, so I used green glitter glue to carefully trace it and add a little color and sparkly POP.
I used glitter glue to freehand a design to jazz up the purple plate shown above. Not my fav, honestly, but I do like that it added some color to the wall.
Do you see the orange plate with the black spiderweb center? That plate was plain, so I cut a circle of spiderweb scrapbooking paper and used ModPodge to decoupage the paper onto the plate.
Finally, I used sticker rows of black rhinestones to add variety and sparkle to this white square plate.
When I was finished decorating plate, I laid them all out on the kitchen table and moved them around until I had an arrangement that I liked, with all of the different colors and decorative features spread nicely. I hung the heavier (glass) plates with hooks (superglued on) and nails, and I hung all of the plastic plates with 3M velcro strips. Man, oh man, I love those things!
What do you think?! I just love how cheery it turned out. Every time I walk down the stairs the combination of colorful, festive plates and glittery table decor just makes my heart sing a happy little song!
Now that we have checked out those plates pretty well, let’s examine the glittery table! I’m not sure where I got all of the glittery pumpkins. I would guess mostly Target, followed by JoAnn Fabrics. My guess on the skulls and the leaves would be the same, and the guess on the little balls is straight to JoAnns.
The silver bowls and candle holders and such I already had in my mother’s dining room hutch. They belonged to my great grandmother. AWESOME, huh?? For the long candles I just grabbed long, black candles and added glitter to them with ModPodge. I believe the black owl candle came from Target.
The green frame started as a plain, wooden frame from a craft store. I painted it, and then I used ModPodge to layer glitter thickly onto the front of it. I can not remember where I got the purple one. Stuff a cute pic of a kid you love in front of pumpkins into ANY frame and I suspect it will work wonderfully! 🙂
Finally, for the table I used the doilies I had from my year-round decor and a glitter broom (in the back), along with lots of feathers, glittery branches and skulls, etc, all of which I believe I got at JoAnn Craft Store.
I just love walking into the house to this each October. Way too fun!! I will leave you with a few more pictures to inspire you to make your own next year! Happy (late) Halloween!
Like this idea??? Check out my entire HALLOWEEN HOME TOUR!!!
And guess what?? I also have a CHRISTMAS PLATE WALL you can check out! 🙂
