Grandma's Zesty Baked Spaghetti
- 1 lb ground beef
- half of an onion
- 3 – 5 slices of bacon
- 28 ounce can whole peeled tomatoes
- green pepper
- small can mushrooms
- 1 – 2 teaspoons cayenne (to taste)
- 1 – 2 teaspoons paprika (to taste)
- 1 – 2 teaspoons salt
- grated cheddar cheese
- 1 lb of spaghetti noodles
- Brown the ground beef in a pot over medium high heat. Drain the fat from the pan.
- Use a food processor to finely chop up the onion.
- Add the onion to the meat and cook over medium high heat until the onions are tender (they should look translucent).
- Cook and chop 3-5 strips of bacon. Add the chopped bacon to the beef and onions.
- Dump the can of tomatoes, the green pepper, and the can of mushrooms (including liquids) into the food processor.
- Pulse the mixture together until well chopped and combined.
- Pour this mixture into the pan with the meat, onion, and bacon.
- Add the spices to taste and simmer for about 15 minutes. (2 teaspoons is quite spicy, so adjust the measurements accordingly.)
- As the mixture simmers, cook your noodles. Drain the cooked noodles and add them to the pot.
- Stir together until the noodles are well coated in the sauce.
- Dump the noodle and sauce mixture into a 9x13 casserole dish and top with a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
