A while back I realized that I had redecorated every room in the house . . . except my own. (Pics of all of the other rooms coming soon, by the way.) My husband couldn’t have cared any less about having a pretty bedroom, but I decided that I *did* care about it, and I deserved a nice living space. However, I didn’t really have a budget for it, so I needed to do everything on the cheap. Well, I chipped away at it over many months, and my master bedroom makeover is finally DONE. I LOOOOVE the way that it turned out! It’s like a colorful, blingy heaven! 🙂 It used to be a bunch of junky, leftover stuff from when this was my sister’s bedroom in middle school. Now it is a mixture of things I bought, things I made myself, furniture from around the house that I refinished, and antiques. ***SWOON.***
Here’s a look at how it looked before the makeover…..yikes.
Let’s take a look at the new and improved room, shall we?
Walk into the room and you will see my majestic wall of bling. Be still my beating heart! 🙂 My mom had glued cork board on an entire wall for my sister to use to hang up stuff when we were growing up (we live with my dad in my childhood home to save money), and that cork board would NOT come off. Oy. I ended up painting it white, getting molding from Home Depot and painting it gold to use as a frame, and then I hung jewelry on it so my jewelry storage could double as a pretty, decorative statement piece. I LOVE the way that it turned out!! The purple dresser was an old dresser from my sister’s nursery that I found living in my dad’s closet. I stole it, spray painted it this fabulous purple color, and added knobs from World Market. Love it. LOVE.
Next to my bling corner is my “Girly Glam Gallery Wall.” I got the frames from Cut it Out Wooden Frames and then I decorated them with spray paint, vinyl, glitter, and more. The round printable in the left corner is from Key Lime Designs and the family cartoon was custom designed by Ink Puddles by Karin.
I got the fabulous hot pink stool from Target, along with the gold basket, gray blanket, and the hooks where I hung up my ridiculously large scarf collection. The perfect-in-every-way floor mirror is from Ikea.
Turn to the other side of the room and you will see my bed. A friend helped me make the tufted headboard – tutorial coming soon! – and I LOVE how it turned out! The bedding is from Wayfair, and the fabulous tufted storage bench was a great TJMaxx find. The colorful ball lights are from Bright Lab Lights. The lamps are old lamps I found in the crawl space, spray painted champagne, and topped with new lampshades from Target. The pretty picture frames are from Target. The two nightstands are things I found around the house and refinished by painting them white with homemade chalk paint and then put new knobs on them from Cost Plus World Market.
The subway print on the wall is a list of all of the shows that we have been in, some together and some alone before we met. (We met performing, and it’s our favorite thing to do together! I only wish we had more time to do shows together!!) I had this custom designed for me from my contributor Kristin of The Simple Perks.
One last corner to admire. This last area includes my great-grandfather’s antique dresser. Isn’t it beautiful?? It was just sitting in the basement not being seen by anyone. Now it’s on display in my room, and it’s topped with a jewelry box that my great-grandfather made as a gift for my mother, whose first initial was also “S.” The silhouettes of my babies were made by my dear from Emily of Emmie Bee’s Curiosities. The basket of goodies is more of my bling. The statue was made by my son and is of the two of us having a sleepover. 🙂 The watercolor was done by yours truly. The bright colors make my heart happy.
Well, what do you think? Do you like all of the bright colors and fun variety? I love it. It’s extremely “me.” Stay tuned for more detailed tutorials on a few of the parts of this room – especially the headboard and jewelry bulletin board display – and for other room reveals. I haven’t been blogging much because my post-miscarriage-postpartum-depression has taken me out of commission for most of the year, but I have been undergoing some intense treatments that should have me back in business soon. {Fingers crossed!!}

Wow Sarah! It looks amazing. I love the cork board as well. Also, I need to go buy that mirror from Ikea. I have one of those ones that you see in dorm rooms that only shows about half of me at a time 🙂 Love!
