*I received these supplies free of charge from Tulip so that I could have a little summer fun with my kiddos. All ideas and opinions are my own.
Remember tie dye shirts? They were all the rage when I was growing up. I don’t think it was possible to go to a summer camp during the early nineties without making a tie dye shirt! Tulip offered to send me a tie dye party kit to try out, so I decided to be brave and cautiously endeavor to make tie dye shirts with my 6 and 3 year old children.
If you want to tie dye with kids this young, PREPARE EVERYTHING AHEAD AND TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO STAY CLEAN. Get all of the supplies prepped and laid out, including plastic tubs for the actual tie dye process, put out a plastic table cloth, put on clothes that no one cares about, top with bibs and aprons, and USE PLASTIC GLOVES!! There were gloves in this kit (it was designed for use by 6 people), so we used those. They were way too big for the kids, but they worked.
As I’m sure you know, to prep to make a tie dye t-shirt you need to twist and bind the shirt with rubber bands. Now place the shirt in a plastic tub in order to minimize the mess. This makes a HUGE difference in clean up!
What I liked about this kit was the bottles! I have memories of dipping t-shirts bound up with rubber bands into buckets of dye. What a mess! These bottles were full of dye powder. I added water, shook them up, and then let the kids spray away!
Put your shirt(s) into plastic bags, seal them up, and let them sit overnight. In the morning we rinsed the excess dye out (I did it with the hose because I was paranoid about dying our white kitchen sink) and wash. I would suggest washing with junky clothes or at least darks. There is probably still some excess dye lingering in there!
Now proudly wear your fun shirt! My kids are O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D with their tye dye t-shirts. They think they are the most fashionable things that they own! Haha!
Have fun!

Thanks for the tips. I really like how easy you made this whole process look. I really like the bottles of tie dye instead of dipping them into dyed water. It I think it will save having to clean up a huge mess. I will have to show this to my sister and see if she wants to do it with her kids.
