Let’s be honest, people: I am lazy. Very lazy. As a matter of fact, I am typing up this post at 10:15 am and I am still wearing my pajamas. True story. But when I venture out of my front door I do like the look cute and stylish. However, my laziness still stands, so I prefer to be able to do it in quick and simple way. Especially during busy, hot summer days! Over the years I have pretty must mastered the art of looking decent in a hurry, and today I am here to share my wisdom with you. Here is the key: fun colors and fabulous accessories. And, my friends, there is no better place to turn for these things than World Market.
Years ago I kept seeing my little sisters in the most fun and funky earrings. I wanted those earrings. They told me they had gotten them at a cool store called World Market. When I finally got into World Market myself I was blown away. Everything from funky home decor and furniture to international foods to amazing, international clothing and accessories. I was sold!
Last week my youngest sister, Laura, came into town (isn’t she darling?!) and we headed to World Market for a sister shopping date. Funnest! Let’s take a look at some of the fabulous finds that we came across!
SCARVES!!!! Everywhere I look this year I am seeing colorful, airy infinity scarves, and I LOVE IT! I have always been a scarf junkie. They instantly liven up and give fresh life to the most drab outfit, and they are a cheap way to turn one plain shirt into several different looks! I discovered this handy guide for 9 different fun ways to tie a scarf on the World Market website. You should check it out! Laura and I were especially taken with the beautiful, plain colored infinity scarves, the floral mint one she is modeling for you (which came home with me!), and the fun and funky camel one you see on me. Too fun!
The perfect pool attire! I am loving maxi dresses this season! LOVING! And this lively ikat maxi dress really stood out to me, especially when paired with that floppy blue hat. I am such an old-school glam girl at heart. I wish I was a celebrity so that I could wear massive sunglasses and enormous floppy hats all summer long! But, as it is, people may find it odd to see me in such a getup, so I will save my floppy hats for the pool. The maxi dress, however, could go from the pool to the park to a summer evening dinner party, although I would probably throw a light cardigan or shawl over it for nighttime. Colorado summer evenings still get fairly cool.
If you are headed to the pool or the park you will also need a tote for all of your snacks and supplies! World Market had a wide variety of colorful bags and totes, but my favorite were actually the Goddess Totes, which are made of tarp, so they are super durable, as well as waterproof and easy to clean! And, oh yeah, only $3.99!!! WHAT A STEAL!
By the way, does anyone need a new wallet? Because this one is KILLING ME!!! It is beyond gorgeous. The picture doesn’t even do it justice. It was the first thing both of us spotted when we walked in.
Now let’s talk JEWELRY! We all know that I have a weakness for jewelry. Jewelry can transform any outfit, and it is my favorite thing to buy at World Market! In fact, I generally have a rule that I don’t buy jewelry since I can make it myself and it’s good advertising for my Etsy shop for me to wear it, but World Market always has such unique pieces at such great prices that I don’t bother trying to recreate them. I just buy them! Their jewelry section is way too fun! I loved all of their bracelets and bangles, and my sister and I were both so taken with this fabulous coral wrap watch that we BOTH bought it—even though neither of us usually wears watches! It is so dang cute on! The other thing I was delighted to see all over the World Market shelves was seed beads. Seed beads are the tiny beads that make up the necklaces shown above. (The aqua one came home with me!) I love the looks of strands upon strands of seed beads, but I refuse to make my own jewelry with them. It is simply not worth the time. The thought of sitting and stringing all of those beads one by one makes me want to throw something through a window. (Hmmm…apparently I have a patience problem.) But really, why would I spend HOURS stringing those tiny little beads when I can just buy that fabulous necklace for a mere $19.99?! I wouldn’t. Which is why it came home with me. Score.
Now we come to my favorite accessories: earrings. I love earrings so very much. Even when I am makeup-free with dark circles under my eyes if I put on a pair of earrings I automatically look more awake and feminine. They are like magic. World Market always has a great selection of funky, dangling earrings in bold metals and colors. ALWAYS. I love them. LOVE them! But what really popped out to me during this visit was the variety of lovely stud earrings. I have always been a blinging dangle girl who wore massive earrings, but I am getting more than a little bit tired of my daughter yanking my earrings. So I knew it was time to invest in some lovely stud earrings. The sweet mint pair on the top made it into my shopping bag.
Last, but certainly not least, let’s all take a moment of silence to celebrate the great blessing that is headbands. I have a lot of hair. My dad refers to it as “The Beast.” Nice, Dad. Very nice. The Beast gets very hot during the summer. I need it off my neck!! The other little detail that you should know about me is that I hate showering. It’s true. I have a weird thing about being wet. Since I am not a sweaty person and my curly hair tends to be dry rather than oily, it works out well for me. I only have to put up with my long, clinging wet hair all over me two or three times a week. Consequently, I pull my hair up a lot, even when it is not summer. And I love a good headband to hide bumps, hold my bangs and layers in place, and to even disguise my lack of shower-love. I LOVE headbands. However, I suffer from migraines, and tight headbands do not work well for me. That is why I love head scarfs. I am so happy that they are coming back! I loved the long, flowy, hippie versions that were around during the peasant shirt era when I was in college, and I love the short, colorful ones now. They are cute, they jazz up my outfit, they hide my bad hair days, and they don’t squeeze the heck out of my head! Halle-freaking-lujah! Aren’t these ones just darling? I always love chevron—especially when it will match anything—and I have a weakness for teal, so these headband/head scarves really caught my eye. There were also may varieties of lovely beaded elastic headbands. My hair and my head are both very pleased, as is my fashion sense!
I am beyond thrilled with all of the loot that I brought home from my sister shopping date to World Market! Here are a few pics in action. I felt silly taking them and my husband was laughing hysterically at my “drab” faces, which just encouraged me to act even sillier. We are dorky. But these accessories truly do “jazz up” my wardrobe, as my sister would say. She is always teasing me about my “uniforms,” a.k.a. cute, plain t-shirts with jeans, and telling me to “jazz them up!” Done, Laura. Done.
Head to World Market’s site or a store to explore their colorful, summery clothing and accessories and give yourself a lazy gal summer style update as well!

I love, love, LOVE it all! I went Father’s Day shopping at World Market awhile ago, and it was all I could do to not spend my money on one of those maxi dresses instead (but I’m guessing my dad would look horrible in it ;))! I’m also dying over that straw fedora, but I happen to have the world’s smallest head, and it was too huge on me 🙁
There is SO much great fashion and accessories at World Market! I love your picks!

Oh my word! I am LOL-ing at the image of your dad in a maxi dress, Heidi!! 🙂 Ironically, I can’t wear that fedora because I have the world’s BIGGEST head! 🙂
Heidi @ Mom's Crafty Space says
Am I just imagining things, or did you add more pictures after I posted that first comment? I swear I didn’t notice the ones of you at the end the first time, but they totally caught my eye and made me laugh when I saw it on Pinterest! I love your pouty face – you look like you’re about to crack up lol!
sarah says
They asked me to add more pictures, Heidi, so you are not imagining things. Thanks for your kind words! 🙂

QUIT with that jewelry. I’m always so distracted by the linens and tableware there (it’s possible that I have a teensy problem with housewares) that I forget to look at the bling. I know where I’m gonna be in the morning–that turquoise necklace has my name alll over it.
The yellow seed bead pretty in your last photo–bracelet, yes? Want to make sure I don’t miss it at the store.
sarah says
Yes, a bracelet. I had to have it. It matches the mustard pants I was wearing to the store. 🙂 Thanks for reading!!
Desiree says
How oh HOW have I never heard of this place???! This has me (ESL teacher and avid traveler) written alllll over it.
sarah says
Yeah it does! WOW! You are welcome! 😉

Love that store!!!! I think I need that turquoise necklace. Might need to head over there tomorrow… 🙂

You had me at….headbands 🙂 I cannot resist!
It looks like mommy needs a little shopping trip of her own!
P.S. I am learning that accessories are an over tired SAHM’s best friend…many a time people tell me how great I look with yesterday’s t-shirt on as long as I am accessorized 🙂
sarah says
AMEN TO THAT!!! 🙂
