I LOVE the look of a fully stenciled wall. It’s like wallpaper, but classier. However, I am way too lazy to fully stencil details onto a wall. Sheesh! Some people have some serious DIY stamina! I, however, do not enjoy painting, so I try to get the most bang for my buck in a hurry. Hence a few big stripes on the wall in my son’s Dr. Seuss Bedroom. This stenciling project in my girl’s nursery was a great meetup of lazy Mom and stencil love.
(Let’s just acknowledge right now that the pink looks WAY prettier in the “after” pictures. The “during” pictures were taken on a SUPER sunny summer day EIGHTEEN MONTHS prior to the “after” pics, so they just weren’t the same lighting. Oh well!)
First of all, did you see my full Sweet Baby Girl Nursery Reveal yesterday? If not, go check it out now! My daughter calls it her “fancy princess room.” Cutest. Now on to the stenciling….
I reached out to Cutting Edge Stencils after seeing some AMAZING things that bloggers were doing with their stencils, and I was SUPER excited to try my own hand at stenciling. Luckily, I was realistic about my skill level AND my patience level, so I decided to keep it simple. I chose this package of “Daisy Crazy” flower wall stencils because I knew they could be done in a minimal effort but maximum impact way, and that they would look fresh and fun in a girly girl nursery. I was right, don’t you think?
I decided to do a cluster of different colored daisies above the crib, so I placed the crib exactly where I wanted it and put a strip of tape just above it so that I would know that I needed to only work above that tape line. Next I taped the stencils to the wall with painter’s tape.
I poured paint onto paper plates, readied my tools (the little foam roller….JACKPOT!), and thought out which colors I wanted to use with each flower. (All of the paint was Pantone samples from Lowe’s.)
Time to paint! Take your time and make sure you just a nice amount of paint without going nuts. You want it to be vibrant, but not bleeding all over the place under the stencil. There are lots of how-to instructions and videos on the Cutting Edge Stencils website. I watched them before getting into my project. Believe me, if I can do it anyone can! I am SO not a “real” DIYer! 🙂
Finished products! They look pretty good, right?!
If you want to see the rest of the nursery details and the “before” and “after” pictures of the whole room makeover then you will have to head over to the full Sweet Baby Girl Nursery Reveal!
While you’re here be sure to check out my son’s Dr. Seuss Bedroom Reveal as well! It’s wild and colorful, that’s for sure!
