*I received these ribbons free of charge from The Ribbon Retreat. The idea, tutorial, and opinions are all my own.
Hello, friends! Remember the Firecracker Bows I shared last week on that ADORABLE red head? Well, I love those bows with all of my heart, but, as you can see, Princess Jade doesn’t have any hair that is worth writing home about, so for now I am stuck with headbands for her. I got it in my head that I could come up with a “baby” version of my Firecracker Bows, and I was right! This was as easy as the original Firecracker Bows! Maybe even easier! Here we go!
Here are the supplies that you will need for your baby headband:
* Patriotic Ribbons — I used one package of the American Pride ribbons, along with a bit of turquoise solid grosgrain ribbon to match the tutu.
* a single alligator clip
* a bit of felt
* a hot glue gun and glue
* a star ribbon slider
* a dark red sequin headband
If you want to complete the look to be as fab as Little Miss Thing here then you will also need to order the Turquoise Baby Fairytale Tutu. It is only $5.99!!! Can you believe it?! You would have to spend more than that just to MAKE a tutu! Sheesh! SCORE! (Boots courtesy of Old Navy.)
Now let’s get started! Decide how big you want your “firecracker” and cut a bunch of ribbons at slightly varying lengths. I think mine were about 6 inches long, but I like BIG on my baby. Cut the edge into cute wedges. You may want to seal them with Fray Check.
Now you need to fold your top ribbon up and wiggle it into the star ribbon slider. Once it’s all the way through twist, wiggle, and adjust until it looks straight. I took a picture of this but can’t find the file anymore. Sorry.
Lay all of the ribbons out in the way that you like them. Now use dots of hot glue to pile the ribbons on top of one another. Glue the ribbon with the slider firmly onto the top of the pile of ribbons. (Don’t the lovely decorations that my son drew on my paper really add to the picture? Heehee.)
Once your pile is finished you can attach your alligator clip. My favorite way to seal my alligator clips is to “trap” them between a small square and strip of felt, as shown below. It is LOCKED in there.
Now just clip it onto your sequin headband! The great thing about putting the bow on a clip instead of directly to the headband is that when your little gal finally gets lots of hair you can use it as a regular hair clip! Cuteness that will last for years! Score!
Don’t you just love it?! I think she is going to be the hit of our neighborhood 4th of July parade, don’t you?
(I love how you can see in this picture that she only has three teeth on the bottom. She is my goofy little sweetie.) Alright, Mama, I have been a very good girl. Now put this on your lens and back AWAY from the camera….
Don’t forget to check out my “big girl” Firecracker Bows!

I’ve skimmed through the Ribbon Retreat before, but I didn’t realize they did “mixes”! Oh my gosh, I wish my little girl let me put headbands and hair clips in bc this is just TOO CUTE! I can’t wait to see what they come up with for Halloween bc you nailed it with this look!
